“Huh. I can’t watch TV anymore,” complained Mara.
Lindsey tilted her head. “Too much sports?”
“No. Election commercials. Enough already.”
“I haven’t noticed,” said Lindsey.
“Are you kidding?”
“Maybe I’m watching too much Netflix,” shrugged Lindsey.
“And the candidates,” vented Mara. “One acts like he’s trying to marry me. Another is a total geek. The third guy looks like he’s a pedophile.”
“Whoa. Maybe I should pay more attention.”
“Why bother?” scoffed Mara.
“So I could be better informed,” said Lindsey.
Mara’s eyes flared. “Here, let me help you. You’ve heard of the one percent? It’s the people running for office. I make 35,000 a year. What do you think they make? Twice that? Maybe three times? Try five times! And they don’t even work a full year!”
Lindsey took a step back. “When did you get so cynical?”
Mara scowled. “The moment I started thinking for myself.”
