Distraction Booger


The salesman was in the middle of his pitch, but all Sam saw was the booger dangling from his left nostril. He was too polite to say anything, so he watched helplessly as it fluttered in and out with each breath.

Sam’s brain seemed to betray him, magnifying the salesman’s nose, emphasizing the solidified ball of mucus. From time to time, the salesman leaned forward, causing Sam recoil in fear of the closer proximity to the bodily secretion. Sam had visions of the booger launching from the salesman’s nose, into his mouth. A shudder shot down his spine. Beads of sweat formed across his brow.

Concentrating on anything else was impossible. All his mental energy focused on ending the meeting as quickly as possible. Sam thoughtlessly agreed to a purchase, but wasn’t sure of exactly what. Once it was complete, Sam fell back in his seat in relief. He was finally free from the horror.

Back at his office, the salesman met with his manager.

“How’d it go?” asked the manager.

The salesman laughed. “You were right. There’s nothing more effective than the distraction booger.”
